Where Is God?
(A poem I wrote years ago)
Where is God, in this world,
Overflowing with trouble and pain?
Where is His promised rest,
When it’s too hard to get up again?
Where is the Creator,
When a baby dies, before it is born?
Where is the Healer,
When the threads of your life are torn?
Where is the Almighty,
When cancer hits a friend, dear to your heart?
Where is God,
When your best-laid plans, suddenly fall apart?
Where is the Holy One,
When your kids are trapped in sin?
Where is the Door of Heaven,
When it seems your prayers can't get in?
Where is the Mighty God,
When your marriage dies of betrayal?
Where is the Living Water,
When disease make you feel so frail?
Where is the Lord of Life,
When someone overdoses on drugs?
Where is the Rock and the Deliverer,
When people are robbed and raped by thugs?
Is God looking down at us,
Is He laughing at all our pain?
Could it be He is just too busy,
To listen to all our lamenting?
Is there a God in heaven?
Did He leave us on our own?
If the Savior loves us so much,
Why is there so much to bemoan?
I will tell you where God is,
Because I have seen Him with my eyes.
I will tell you where He is “hiding,”
Because He is often in disguise.
The Master shows Himself in the autumn,
When the leaves are all aglow.
He reveals Himself again in the winter,
In the fresh, light falling snow.
In the spring, you will hear His work,
In the new nests of little "tweets."
In the summer, He gives to our beaches,
Our much sought after heat.
God’s gifts are the rainforests,
The mountains, waterfalls and canyons.
He abides in the lonely plains,
And the ghettos He has not abandoned.
The Merciful One is laughing,
In the quirks of boys and girls.
His sense of humor is revealed,
In the platypus and the squirrels.
The Deliverer protects many drivers,
With cell phones on their ear.
He shows up in special e-mails,
From those we hold so dear.
He is watching you in the evening,
When the sun sets in orange and pinks.
The Holy Spirit pricks your conscience,
When you are trying to get some sleep.
God is in the words, “I am sorry”
He is there in “I love you.”
He is present when someone gives,
A cherished gift to you.
We might look at the pain in life,
When things do not go our way.
We might blame God for all our ills,
And then push God away.
Troubles come and troubles hurt,
In a world infected with sin.
People say God does not care,
But do they let Him in?
God is up in heaven,
He sees all that transpires.
The Lord of Hosts is with us,
Not hidden under cathedral spires.
The Healer is at the sick bed,
Of those you love so much.
The Comforter is also with you,
When depression cuts you off.
The Creator is with the child,
That was not born alive.
She is with Jesus in heaven now,
Waiting for her parents to arrive.
God is everywhere; you can see Him,
And you can hear His voice.
God wants to heal and guide you,
But you have to make that choice.
God is full of love and mercy,
And healing for all your pain.
All you have to do is run to Him,
And give Him what remains,
Of your life.
There is a place above us ,
Where God and angels dwell.
It is a place of peace and love,
The opposite of hell.
In heaven, every pain and worry,
Become a thing of the past.
Do not spend your time on earth,
For things that cannot last.
Heaven is waiting for those,
Who will follow the Lord now.
Yet, hell is awaiting those,
Who to Satan’s lies will bow.
A guiding hand will lead,
Those who live for the Lord today.
Confusion and regrets are in store,
For those who turn to God, and say,
"NO."
Jesus Christ is the Savior,
He paid for all your misdeeds.
These are the gifts He gives,
Redeeming you, meeting your needs.
Please let Jesus take the burdens,
And the sins of your heart today.
Then get up and follow Him,
By His love, He will lead the way.
